Subject:Scholarships for the disabled
Posted by:beaconeer.

I thought it might be a good idea to compile a database of scholarships for the disabled, focusing on college students but not exclusively so. If you would like to be apart of this, either to supply information or to receive the final file, look up this post title on creactiv_voice for further instructions.

Vocational Rehabilitation is the service intended to help you with just that. Here is where you can find your local office

If you have a problem with Vocational Rehabilitation Services, you can contact CAP or Client Assistance Program. Find out about what CAP is here . Im working on a state-by-state spreadsheet of CAP agencies, since those sites dont seem to provide such. If anyone can find one that does, please contact me.

Evictions off campus due to suicide attempts OR admission to a hospital for depression

I was outraged when I did. The last thing a depressed student needs is to be immediately tossed onto the streets. Yes I understand that these colleges/universities may not have the resources nor the necessitity to build mental institutions on campus, but certainly they should be required to treat their fellow human beings with some measure of dignity, if not even a trace of compassion. I do not accept the premise that they are seeking whats in the students' best interests. I wonder if in fact they are serving their own, in seeking shelter for their insurance policies away from legal storms. The problem for them is that within the ADA the legal standard for individuals with disabilities is the most integrated policies possible, in concurrence with the standards specified by the individual's treatment providers. There are certain factors that need to be considered here, such as whether or not the students could be defined under the law as persons with disabilities, etc. Even if these institutions of learning are safe due to these specific circumstances, it seems they are building their campus policies on quicksand rather than modern legal ethics.

Subject:State of Nevada Issues Expedited Service Permits to Disabled Nevadans
Posted by:swsoaringeagle.
Time:9:38 pm.
http://www.dmvnv.com/platesdisabled.htm#Expedited

Disabled individuals with an irreversible condition may obtain an Expedited Service Permit. This entitles the holder to receive expedited services at State of Nevada agencies only. The permit contains your photograph and is similar to a driver's license. The permit is valid for ten years.

Nevada Revised Statutes Regarding Expedited Service Permits.

I don't quite know what to think of this. On one hand I think it's a great idea for those disabled individuals who need to be expedited through sometimes VERY long lines or wait times, but for those disabled individuals who don't need it medically speaking, it's just a convenience. For the record, I myself am disabled and have been since birth.

What are your thoughts?

I want advice
I am a big girl, I can take anything you guys have to dish out....
Anyways, I have a new fling, we aren't dating, but we do hang out, and *gasp* we did have sex once so far. I love just being with him, he makes me laugh, and then I forget I am a sad person the rest of the time. He is a Denny's manager SCORE! :) so maybe I will get free food. The thing is, now some people probably have a problem with this (even my friends but they just aren't saying anything) I just wish if they think it's weird, say smething. Anyways. He is 10 years older than me. I am perfectly fine with it, and so is he, and I am not even close to worried about what others think I was just wondering what you do think?

Subject:I get to use crutches! Whoo!
Posted by:hedder_42.
Time:1:31 pm.
This is a scary thought. I might injure something else using these things! Well, the other day, I fell on the ice, and I didn't hurt. Lastnight though, I fell to my knees, my leg hurt so bad! So I went into the ER. 4 hours later they said I had bruised my hip bone and pelvic bone. So I am on PERCOCET! YAY!
I am done now. Anyways, I think they should use percocet as a anti-depperessant. I use it, and I am totally knowing what is going on, and everything is as normal as usual, except, I don't hurt anywhere, not my leg, not my emotions. I guess thats why its a PAIN killer.

Hi everyone.

I'm doing a presentation in a class I have at university and if nobody minds, I'd like some input from other individuals with disabilities.

The question (task) that I posed was what types of terms they (my fellow classmates) have come into contact with that describe or demean those with a disability. For another point of view, I'm curious to find out what terminology you might/might not use, or what terminology you might prefer?

Sorry if I offended anyone with the term "individuals with disabilities" or "those with a disability". Its difficult to find one particular term to get my point across.

All are welcome to post... thanks to all that do.

Subject:I really hate who I am right now
Posted by:hedder_42.
Time:11:36 pm.
Yea, I was talking to a guy online, yea I know a guy online shouldn't make me hate myself, but he's not the only person who's made me feel this way. Well here's how it got me thinking sadly. I was talking to some random guy online, and he asked me to tell him something that not to many people know about me. So I started talking about all my brain problems, but not all at once, but it ended up me telling him I was a schizophrenic, depressed,OCD,ODD,compulsive liar, so then he goes "I don't think I can talk to you anymore" then he blocked me. So it got me thinking, how in the hell can I live my life witout people knowing I am a total nut job? Like am I sapposed to just keep it all in, and never tell anyone that there is anything wrong with me? I don't even know what my friends that I have now think about me, do they think I am a nut job? Well I know I AM but what do they think of me? It's just so hard. I really dun know what to do.
